"For in Him we live and move and have our being." Acts 17:28a (NIV)

I can’t help it. The comparison is a sticky one. Deep down in the depths of my soul, is God still as tall as He used to be? Is He still as large and big and great as He once was? For some reason I cannot scrape this subject from the forefront of my mind. It’s coming up over and over and over again. How can we become more mature as believers without becoming ‘wise guys’ in our own eyes? How can we see the Lord as big when life’s problems seem bigger? Is it possible to stay relevant and reverent at the same time? How do we keep Him tall? Post-it note: God IS bigger than life itself. God IS greater than life itself. And the Lord God Almighty IS sovereign over life itself, and anything and everything in it. He is reverently relevant, remarkably so, and it is ridiculous not to remember so.
It was as if the Lord stuck a post-it note on my forehead this morning, a sorely needed reminder. As our daughter heard her daddy’s voice, she came running down the stairs squealing, “Daddyyyyyyy!” She ran up and gave him a gynormous hug, then took a step back, looked up at him and said, “I’m getting almost as tall as you.” Then, pause…freeze… “Daddy, you’ re not as tall as you used to be…” The conversation went on, but those were the words that stuck with me and now loom in my mind:
“Daddy, you’re not as tall as you used to be…”
Deuteronomy 4:32-35, NIV The Lord is God “Ask now about the former days, long before your time, from the day God created man on the earth; ask from one end of the heavens to the other. Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has anything like it ever been heard of? Has any other people heard the voice of God speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived? Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by miraculous signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, Like all the things the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes? You were shown these things so that you might know that the LORD is God; Besides Him there is no other.”
"O Sovereign LORD, You have begun to show to Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works You do?” Deuteronomy 3:24
